- Note: Los Proverbios was one of four sets of prints illustrating the horrors of war then raging in Europe and the follies of 18th century Spain with its religious, social and political upheavals. The Los Proverbios series used ridicule, extravagance and fantasy to display the errors and vices of contemporary Spain. Los Proverbios was not published during the artist's lifetime due to the controversial subject matter in the era of the inquisition.
