"My grandfather was Robert Reid, married to Elizabeth Reeves. My father and his identical twin brother were born August 26, 1911. My fathers’ twin apparently died at the age of 40 and my father died March 23, 1989. I believe Robert Reid died in 1927 .... After Reid died my grandmother Elizabeth married Robert Ingold who then adopted my father and his brother..
Elizabeth was twenty some odd years younger than Reid and would model for him. The large sketch and the painting on wood is of my grandmother Elizabeth. That is information given to me by my father..
I remember my father and mother (step) letting the San Diego Museum of Art display the collection you now have in your possession. I am not sure the self sketch done in 1927 was a part of the display. .
After my mother died May 30, 1987 my father gave me the collection... I had them displayed in a cedar log home I owned until 1993."
Marsha Parks Meacham Oct 15, 2013.
Born in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, Reid studied at various art schools including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts school, the Art Student's League in New York, and the Academie Julian in Paris, with Gustave Boulanger and Jules Lefebvre. He was one of the founding members of the Ten American Painters and his art is in many permanent collections including, but not limited to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Art Museum of Detroit, Michigan, and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C.
